A preview of  The Mansion Girls' first pattern collection.

Inspired by warm and heady summer evenings, and pollen powdered afternoons,

'Pretty in the Garden' takes its cue from fairytales and folklore, Shakespeare and superstition.

Spoonflower Buying Guide

Fabric

During the design process I made numerous proofs on various fabrics and it quickly became clear that the type of fabric can drastically affect the quality of the printed image.  While I didn't get a chance to test my patterns on all of the Spoonflower fabrics (as there are many), here are my top picks for the most accurate representation of my work.

1. Wide Cotton Sateen 6.5 oz (NOT 3.5oz)  Pictured in the video above. This is my top pick for accurate colour and crisp image resolution.  It's 100% cotton, 116" width, so it's basically twice the size of a standard fabric width which is great for upholstery, curtains and other home decor projects.  Best of all the finish is a high-end matte finish with a very subtle low lustre. This fabric is not to be confused with the Wide Cotton Sateen 3.5 oz which is much lighter and has a shinier finish.

2. Linen Cotton Canvas  6.4 oz.  Similar to the Wide Cotton Sateen 6.5 but has a slightly more pronounced woven texture.  Accurate colour and image resolution.

3. Organic Cotton Sateen 3.8 oz.  This is a lighter weight fabric but has accurate colour and image resolution.

4. Petal Signature Cotton 4.4oz.  While the colour saturation is a little less rich, it's a good choice if you're working on a smaller budget.  Lightweight.

I do recommend that prior to purchase, you explore your fabric options by ordering swatches first.

Wallpaper

I only tested the Peel and Stick, Pre-Pasted, and Non- Pasted Wallpaper options.

Top Pick:  Non-Pasted Wallpaper.  This wallpaper has a lovely high-end finish.  The only drawback is you will either require some decent wallpaper application skills, or you will have to hire someone who does.  It is also the most expensive option, but well worth it.

2. Peel and Stick.  It was surprising that I actually preferred the Peel and Stick over the Pre- Pasted.  It's fairly close in comparison to the image resolution and matte finish of the Non-Pasted option but at a fraction of the price.  For short-term use (up to one year).

3. Pre-Pasted Wallpaper.  This option has a semi- matte finish that reminded me a little of wrapping paper, but obviously much thicker than actual wrapping paper. It's just a personal preference but I prefer wallpaper with a more matte finish.

I do recommend that prior to purchase you explore your wallpaper options by ordering samples first.
